The BBC Proms

The BBC Proms are a classical music event that has been occurring from July to September since 1895. One of Britains greatest musical traditions, the Proms were originally hosted to bring classical music to people who may otherwise not experience it. To this day, they still retain their original purpose. Proms, short for Promenade concerts, run nightly throughout the course of their season, and offer many varieties of classical music performed in the Royal Albert Hall. The informal dress attire required at this event, along with the affordable seating options, allow many different types of people to come together and experience classical music in ways they normally wouldn’t. The only draw back to the Royal Albert Hall is that, due to its age, the venue can become quite warm on a crowded night. Luckily, the informal dress code allows for spectators to plan and dress accordingly. The very best seats, in the front of the house, are standing room. This, however, is the minority. Most of the tickets are for traditional seats. Due to their cheap price, rich history, and cultural importance, as well as the quality of the orchestras and soloists who play, these concerts are not to be missed if you happen to be in London during Prom season.
